Yucca filifera

St. Peter's Palm, Izote

A statuesque trunk forming species from Mexico, Yucca filifera creates an impressive tower of dark sword-like leaves edged with ornamental silvery threads.

St. Peter’s Palm is versatile – it has moderate frost tolerance when kept in excellent drainage, but is also a popular specimen for a sunny conservatory.

Expert Tip

Make sure to keep this Yucca dry in winter. Mature, established plants can stay outdoors in the ground over winter. The crown may require some protection during periods with frost forecasted.
Care & Size Guidance

Care & Size Guidance

Yucca filifera thrives in a sunny sheltered spot. Keep watering to a minimum and keep dry in winter.

If kept in a container, use a mix of soil based compost with potting grit to allow the compost to keep its structural integrity over time. A layer of grit may be added also to the top of the container. This will prevent weeds from sprouting in the pot and insulates the foliage (especially in younger plants) from the damp soil.

Albeit one of the fastest growing Yuccas, when compared to other plants, it’s very slow growing.

It tends to branch when it reaches a good size trunk, but this all depends on local conditions.

Really pleased with the quality that arrived. Looks stocky, hardy, healthy and looks like it will take well in the ground. Hopefully it looks stunning in a few years time. Very pleased. Wish I’d bought two instead of a yucca elata.
