Plant Biography

Wollemia nobilis was unknown to science right up until 1994, when it botanists found it growing in a wilderness area of the Wollemi National Park in Australia. With less than 100 adult trees found in the wild, an extensive research and conservation plan was quickly developed.

The Wollemi Pine is a true living fossil, the sole remaining member of a genus that was last known from fossils 2 million years old. Despite being commonly referred to as Wollemi pine, it is not a pine at all and actually in the same family as the Monkey Puzzle Tree (Araucariaceae).

Although a mature specimen can reach over 12 metres in optimum conditions, this is a slow growing tree in the UK so be ready to celebrate small annual increases!

Received my 3ltr Woolemia this morning, Ive always wanted one of these trees and I am lost for words. It is so beautiful, lots of strong new growth, a very healthy and well cared for young tree. It arrived carefully packaged in with several other plants, all have now had a little drink and are standing in the shade for a day or two to recover from their journey. No damage was done in transit at all, everything was individually wrapped to protect leaves etc. Im more than happy with the new family members.
