Plant Biography

Portuguese laurel is indeed obligingly native to Portugal. However it is also found to originate Southwestern France, Spain, Morocco, and Macaronesia.

In the wild it grows along mountain streams, enjoying sunshine and moist but well-drained soils. However it is a tough and forgiving plant, and can be moderately drought-tolerant once established.

‘Angustifolia’ means thin leaf, which suits the longer slimmer leaf shape of this cultivar.

Care & Size Guidance

The bushy compact growing habits of this shrub mean it generally only needs a trim once a year in the summer after flowering. It is very amenable to pruning and shaping, making it an excellent hedging plant.
