Care & Size Guidance

Care & Size Guidance

Fargesia ‘Obelisk’ prefers partial shade to full sun. It can tolerate some shade, but for optimal growth and density, provide it with at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight each day. It thrives in well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. Ensure the soil is moist but not waterlogged, as excessive waterlogging can lead to root rot.

Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant to help retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weed growth. Ensure the mulch is not in direct contact with the bamboo’s stems to prevent potential rotting.

Fargesia nitida x murielae ‘Obelisk’ is a clumping bamboo and does not spread aggressively like running bamboos. However, if you wish to contain its growth, consider installing a root barrier around the planting area.

Feeding Fargesia plants

All bamboo plants are heavy feeders and periodic application of fertiliser is highly recommended to keep the plants thriving.

Feed with slow release bamboo fertiliser twice a year to encourage strong healthy plants.

I spent ages looking for decent Bamboo Plants. Luckily I eventually found the Palm Centre online – the website was great and the information and photos of the plants excellent. The plant arrived very quickly and was superbly packaged. We were very impressed with the quality and condition of the plant and it now has pride of place in our garden. The price we paid was also superb. Overall a great service and we would highly recommend this business and would certainly look to use them again in the future.
