Plant Biography

Originally from China, the Szechwan province, the Fargesia nitida family of bamboo has always been the staple food for the giant panda bears.

It’s common name, the Fountain bamboo, is descriptive of its thin canes habit to arch down under their own weight.

The ‘Black Pearl’ cultivar has been selectively grown to have almost black canes that contrast with the bright green evergreen foliage. These dark canes make it a good alternative to Phyllostachys nigra.

Bought this over a year ago and is growing well. I live in a very windy area and seems to cope well with frost and wind.

Very pleased with the quality of this bamboo. The packaging was excellent and the plants in superb condition on receipt. Two weeks on the plants have settled well and beginning to really thrive now. This is the first time we have used The Palm Centre and we have been impressed with them from the time of ordering online through to the receipt of the order. Will certainly use them again in the future.
