Plant Biography

Native from North East India to South East China, it is commonly called the India rubber tree because of its milky sap that can be used to produce rubber, which also gives rise to the name elastica.

In the Tropics Ficus elastica is widely grown as an ornamental tree. Mature trees of this species can grow 50 to 100 foot tall and develop banyan-like aerial roots that form trunks.

In colder climates, like the UK, it has become a popular statement houseplant for its easy care requirements and striking appearance.

A real beauty and larger than expected. Arrived well packaged, however some of the lower leaves had become damaged in transit but are healing up well. 3 new leaves have emerged already from their chrysalis like stem. Strong dark green leaves with a nice burgundy on the underside of each leaf. The contrast of green and red is truly remarkable, I cant help but stare at my ficus elastica.
