Plant Biography

The Royal Fern grows from a dense and fibrous rhizome, forming large mounds from which patches of beautiful new fiddle heads emerge in spring.

Native to Macronesia and Europe, this large deciduous fern is found in fen-carr woodlands (wetland woodland habitats), riverbanks and rocky lake shores.

Osmunda regalis gained massive popularity during the Victorian fern craze, but more recently has become a popular choice to add attractive, fresh foliage to damper areas of the garden.
