Ficus lyrata has been a popular houseplant for decades. Its tolerant nature means it will happily grow in most positions indoors. Bright light gives the most compact and healthy growth. Makes a wonderful specimen plant for any room.
Although not a easy plant to care for, the Ficus lyrata will reward you with an impressive foliage if cared for properly.
How to care for your Ficus lyrata
Bright room. Keep the plant in a bright room, however away from the direct action of the sun rays. Sunlight filtered through the glass is highly damaging to the ficus.
Away from draughts. Make sure the Ficus lyrata is kept away from any draughts as they will immediately shock the plant causing leaves to drop.
Keep a constant temperature. Nothing is more damaging to the Ficus lyrata than sudden changes in temperatures. A sudden drop will send the plant into shock and will lose most of its leaves.
Water only when necessary. Even though it is a tropical plant and it loses a lot of water through evaporation, the Ficus lyrata hates to have its roots in water. They will rot really easily and cause the plant to die fast.
Feed regularly. Apply a light organic fertiliser throughout the growing season according to the instructions. Avoid overfeeding, as this will lead to the salts accumulating in the soil.

Palm trees are one of the most popular choices for indoor plants to grow. They provide the majestic beauty of a tropical garden and the ease of care. The less mature palms can be used as a desk plant for a small office and even in bathrooms of some homes.
An inevitable problem encountered by growing palms indoors is the amount of dust that builds up on the leaves over time.
The soil in the pots should be kept moist and never be allowed to dry out. During the summer months you will be watering as much as twice per week to maintain moisture levels, whereas in winter you should water sparingly.
Usually bought together
Very pleased with my Ficus Lyrata. It is a very good looking plant and is of a good size. My only criticism is that a few of the leaves are damaged and have brown spots, some are worse than others but overall still a wonderful plant. Was delivered by the company itself which was a bonus and arrived sooner than anticipated.
