One of the most beautiful, popular and suitable palms for growing indoors. Almost unsurpassed for its tolerance of shady conditions, dry air and general neglect

Howea forsteriana has graced hallways, hotel lobbies and 'Palm Court' tea rooms since Victorian times. These are slow growing palms indoors, but can eventually reach 3m+ with good care.

Although often seen as multi-stemmed potted specimens Kentia Palms are solitary trunked in its natural habitat - but it is hard to resist the lush effect of three or more small plants together!

Frequently asked questions about houseplants

How often should I feed my house plants?

With some house plants, you can feed them according to the label on the feed. It may look like it's not enough and you could be tempted to add more than the recommended dose, but do remember that the correct dosages will prevent the roots from getting burned from too much concentration.

As a rule of thumb, once a month, a mild solution of a balanced organic fertiliser is ideal to be applied in the growing season.

How often should I water my house plants?

Watering houseplants is always a tricky business. Some love to have their soil moist at all times, others like to be on the drier side. Also, every home is different and winters are not the same as summers.

Conditions differ throughout the year, all over the country and plants have different preferences.

Make sure you read the care instructions that come with the plant and adjust that according to your home.

GENERAL CARE

Palm trees are one of the most popular choices for indoor plants to grow. They provide the majestic beauty of a tropical garden and the ease of care. The less mature palms can be used as a desk plant for a small office and even in bathrooms of some homes.

An inevitable problem encountered by growing palms indoors is the amount of dust that builds up on the leaves over time.

WATERING

The soil in the pots should be kept moist and never be allowed to dry out. During the summer months you will be watering as much as twice per week to maintain moisture levels, whereas in winter you should water sparingly.

I chose this palm as it can tolerate some shade and some neglect which suited me and the space that is wanted for. Arrived well packaged, on time and in excellent condition. I don’t think this is a house plant purchase I can sneak in without my husband noticing.. it makes a real statement! I promise to look after it, thank you Palm Centre.

Being over 1.8metres tall, I was worried about damage to the plant in transit. I was delighted to find the plant was well protected and has arrived in excellent condition. A real statement of a plant that now graces my hallway. Many thanks John Black

I normally do not buy online from any shop but I have visited The Palm House in the past and have always been impressed with the quality and variety of your plants. My online purchase with you has been very rewarding: a beautiful plant and excellent service.
