Hesperaloe parviflora is an evergreen perennial plant related to yucca, growing as a stemless 1m high clump comprised of many individual rosettes of thin, hard, dark olive-green, deeply-channelled leaves with curling filaments along the margins. Each rosette will eventually flower and die, whereupon a huge arching flower stalk is produced that bears tubular trumpets in colours ranging from reddish pink to vivid scarlet, paler within. This is an extremely hardy and architectural plant for the arid border that, given the hottest and sunniest spot in your garden, will reward with exceptionally showy floral display.
