Naturally a tall single trunked, many branched tree, here in the UK Cordyline australis rarely reaches giant proportions as, inevitably, it will be cut back by cold. Recent winters have demonstrated that plants reduced to ground level will usually re-sprout from the base and quickly regain some size. In fact few plants are as undemanding and tolerant: from the wet salt-laden gales of the southwest to the parched eastern counties, Cabbage trees abound, quickly growing into architectural specimens. Vast spikes of scented flowers in late summer can fill a garden with perfume - resultant seed laden trusses help birds through winter.

Most palms need tropical or subtropical temperatures, but there are some suitable for planting outdoors in the British Isles. Hardy palms are invaluable as structural plants in tropical-style gardens and look effective when planted with bananas, bamboos and New Zealand flax.
Hardy palm trees can be planted at any time of the year, but ideally it should be done during spring and summer.
Try to dig a hole a good deal bigger than the root-ball, which should be given a good soak before planting. Back-fill the hole with a free draining mix
Water thoroughly. This will be beneficial to the establishment of the root system. If planting during a dry spell, water the hole first, allow to drain, plant, back-fill, and then water again.

Positive, plant bigger than expected, that's the only positive I'm afraid. Negatives, trunk bent, every single leaf damaged to some extent, some had to be cut off due to being badly damaged including young leafs, very disappointed to be honest

Palm Centre Reply: We're so sorry to hear that you're not happy with the plant our colleagues picked for you. I had been in contact with the Palm Centre as we have a mature (25 /30 year old Cordyline australis in the garden and wanted another. I needed delivery guaranteed within a particular time scale and the Palm Centre was very helpful in bumping my order to the earliest possible dispatch. The plant (a juvenile) arrived the next day and was well-packaged and healthy, and slightly taller than specified. Happy to recommend the Palm Centre.
I ordered the 80/100cm Cordyline australis. It was well established, healthy and slightly bigger than anticipated. When it arrived it was well packed, made secure and all the foilage was tied up and packed to avoid causing any damage. Really pleased with this product, the service and packaging. Would order again.
