Blue Fescue is a low-growing, semi-evergreen clump-forming ornamental grass famed for its glaucous blue-grey foliage. Light green flowers tinged with purple appear in late spring, which give way to seed heads which some gardeners also find attractive.

Festuca glauca ‘Elijah Blue’ is one of the most popular cultivars of the species, distinguished by its even stronger silver and sky blue foliage in spring, which persists longer into the growing season.

Care & Size Guidance

Care & Size Guidance

Festuca glauca is easily grown in full sun in dry to medium, well-drained soil. It can tolerate light shade but the colour is at its best in full sun.

The clumps usually to die out in the center and need to be divided and replanted or replaced every few years. In spring, or after hot and humid summers, foliage should be cut back to about 4 inches long to facilitate new growth.

Several specimens are best planted close together (about 8-10 inches apart) as the clumps do not spread outwards very much. If not tightly planted, weeds have a tendency to grow inbetween specimens which requires more maintenance to keep tidy.

I ordered 4 these, they arrived within days, securely packed and in good condition. They are a good size and I can’t wait to see them flourish in my garden.
