Ferocactus stainesiiFerocactus pilosus
Ferocactus stainesii is an imposing cactus that eventually grows into a robust clump of chunky columns. Each can reach 3m and 50cm in width, with 12-20 ribs, and a mature plant can consist of a dozen columns. Each rib is studded along its length by clusters of sharp, cruved bright pink-red spines, giving the plant a pinky haze when viewd at a distance. In summer older plants wil produce a ring of burnt-orange flowers around the top. This is an easy care pot plant for the summer patio or nestled in between hardy plants in the arid garden, needing just a dry frost-free winter rest.
