Ferocactus glaucescens, the Glaucous Barrel cactus, comes from central Mexico and is an eminently suitable plant for a sunny window sill, glass house or conservatory.  It slowly grows into a rotund barrel-shaped body of a remarkable powdery blue hue that comprises of between 10 -15 ribs that sport clusters of straight yellow spines.  This contrast of colour makes it particularly striking.  Lemon yellow flowers are borne in a ring at the newest growth near the top of the plant.  The sunniest position you can give this will enhance the colour.
