This fascinating plant is believed to be a hybrid between Eriobotrya deflexa and Rhaphiolepis indica, but experts cannot agree. Either way, it has many of the beautiful elements of Eriobotrya deflexa, with it’s dark green glossy leaves which emerge in wonderful shades of copper and red

Originating in southeastern China, the loquat has been cultivated for over a millennium, as evidenced by Chinese records dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). Care & Size Guidance

Care & Size Guidance

Caring for Eriobotrya Coppertone, a captivating cultivar of the loquat tree, involves several key considerations. This plant thrives in a sunny location, making it essential to provide adequate sunlight. Well-draining soil is crucial to prevent waterlogged roots, as loquats are sensitive to overwatering. Water the plant moderately, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between watering.

Protecting the plant from frost in colder climates is essential, as it is not fully-hardy. With proper care and attention to its specific needs, Eriobotrya coppertone can thrive, adding both ornamental beauty and a tropical touch to your garden.

Under ideal conditions it can become a medium-size tree, but more often it forms a large shrub.
