Native to the island of Madagascar, this easy elegant palm decorates any room given bright indirect light. A fountain of fine feathery fronds arches up on a dense clump of golden stems, very slowly growing up to 250cm+ indoors.

A position in bright light will bring out the colour of the trunks and leaf bases. Water when the top several cm of soil is dry, and ensure good drainage. Feed in the brighter months, and improve the air humidity to protect the plant from excessive leaf-tip drying and red spider mites.

Frequently asked questions about houseplants

How often should I feed my house plants?

With some house plants, you can feed them according to the label on the feed. It may look like it's not enough and you could be tempted to add more than the recommended dose, but do remember that the correct dosages will prevent the roots from getting burned from too much concentration.

As a rule of thumb, once a month, a mild solution of a balanced organic fertiliser is ideal to be applied in the growing season.

How often should I water my house plants?

Watering houseplants is always a tricky business. Some love to have their soil moist at all times, others like to be on the drier side. Also, every home is different and winters are not the same as summers.

Conditions differ throughout the year, all over the country and plants have different preferences.

Make sure you read the care instructions that come with the plant and adjust that according to your home.

GENERAL CARE

Palm trees are one of the most popular choices for indoor plants to grow. They provide the majestic beauty of a tropical garden and the ease of care. The less mature palms can be used as a desk plant for a small office and even in bathrooms of some homes.

An inevitable problem encountered by growing palms indoors is the amount of dust that builds up on the leaves over time.

WATERING

The soil in the pots should be kept moist and never be allowed to dry out. During the summer months you will be watering as much as twice per week to maintain moisture levels, whereas in winter you should water sparingly.

Beautiful Plant

I purchased the smaller size butterfly palm and really pleased with this beautiful plant. Delivery was delayed due to cold weather, but I was kept informed. The plant was very well packaged, but unfortunately two of the lower leaf stems were broken. I phoned customer services and a ver pleasant person took my number but my call was not returned. However, I am so thrilled with the quality and look of this lovely plant and would recommend Palm Centre.
