Chamaedorea seifrizii

Bamboo Palm

Closely related to the much more common Parlour Palm, this Chamaedorea has tall canes topped with a small crown of deep green leaves. As the plant ages it produces many suckers so over time the plant resembles a clump of bamboo.

Popular as an outdoor plant in warmer countries, it is rarely seen in the U.K., but makes a wonderful houseplant.

Care & Size Guidance

This decorative New World palm is one of the best suited palms to growing indoors where it is remarkably tolerant of low light levels and dry air. Happiest with indirect, bright light, this palm will also cope with deeper shade as it grows as an understory plant in its native forest setting.

It looks most lush with a bit of humidity but can tolerate most indoor environments easily. Mist regularly to keep it looking its best.

Expert Tip

If you're lucky enough to get fruit on your plant, be careful as the flesh contains a skin irritant.
