Hibanobambusa tranquillans 'Shiroshima' is a variegated cultivar of a naturally occurring bi-generic hybrid between Phyllostachys nigra 'Henonis' and Sasa veitchii. Given how infrequently bamboos flower this seems a staggeringly improbable event, yet here it is. The hybrid presents characteristics that are a half-way house between both parents - larger leaves than a Phyllostachys, taller than a Sasa. But perhaps as running as both. 'Shiroshima' has the most beautiful, irregular, bright, creamy-white stripes running along the leaves and is arguably the most handsome variegated bamboo. Emerging culms have exquisitely striped sheaths but growth can be a little wayward.

Delivery location

Due to the nature of the consignments, the courier's drivers are not insured to carry goods through your property. The standard delivery location is the border of your property or the entrance of a communal space. If other arrangements need to be made, please get in touch with us as soon as the order is placed.
Vouchers and small boxes can be posted through the letterbox, provided there is unrestricted access to it.

Bamboos can be grown almost anywhere, but avoid excessively windy locations. Many can be grown in sun or shade (sun is usually best for colour).Bamboos are generally shallow rooted and prefer a rich, moisture retentive, organic soil.

Before planting out, the roots should be soaked in water for some time, and after planting it is important that the plant is watered well.

Hardy species of bamboo which were grown in pots can be planted anytime during the year, except in frozen ground.
