Plant Biography

Native to Eastern Asia, hence the name ‘niponicum’ which refers to the Japanese name for Japan ‘Nippon’. Athyrium niponicum ‘Metallicum’s distinct metallic silver-grey and green fronds, with subtle burgundy veins, make it one of the most popular ferns grown today.

The unique tones this fern’s foliage exhibits gives it enormous potential in garden design to create colour contrast and provide an ethereal presence amongst the other plants in the shady border of your garden.
