Plant Biography

This robust and full hardy fern will add interest to all types of gardens, giving beautiful green textured foliage all year round. Can reach 1 meter in height and spread eventually.

Prefers cool, moist and humus- rich soil in a sheltered partially shaded spot but will tolerate full sun if well watered especially in the growing season.

Commonly known as ‘Champions Wood Fern,’ it will remain glossy, upright and dark green all through winter, for this reason it’s ideally planted in a prime spot where it will be seen all year long.

Care & Size Guidance

Care & Size Guidance

Plant in deep rich soils in partial shade or full shade in Spring. Allow space to spread as the Champion’s Wood Fern can get to 1 m in diameter.

Keep the soil moist at all times, and if necessary, apply mulch to the surface to keep moisture in the ground.

In spring start feeding with a high nitrogen fertiliser as soon as the new fronds (croziers) start to push through. Depending on the climate, the new growth can push fairly late in Spring.
