When to bring palms indoor
As a general 'rule': the only palms that will survive a typical British winter are likely to be Trachycarpus, Chamaerops and cordyline (which is not a palm). All the rest will neeed some form of mollycoddling to survive. Do not waste your time and money! I live in Scotland and have many years of palm experience in this field and work as a gardener providing show displays for upmarket brasseries and restaurants which like to use those exotics on their smoker's terraces. Don't waste your energy on trying to grow something which does not accept the British/Scottish climate unless you are willing to go to extreme lengths to make things survive. By all means, plant a grove of Trachycarpus in all its forms or even a crop of Chamaerops humilis plus loads of Cordylines. They will all do well if somewhat struggling after a dozen severe winter gales. Forget about the rest. NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER . The END
Hi, Thanks
Some are 1 metre and some not so what about putting the plants in alley way which has 3 sides protected and then putting a plastic sheet to protect againt frost. Is it frost the main killer or combination of cold -5 etc. It can get this -5 in night some times in midlands.
How much watering needs doing if the plants protected in garage or alley way?
alocasia - is this a very big leaf plant - where can I get one of these and do they grow in pot or outside ok here (west midlands)?
I have a number of palms in pots, Tracy, Phoenix, Chamaerops Humilis, Yucca, cycas . All Small to medium size.
When should I bring indoor for winter into my garage (It has a window)?
