The most common and most popular cycad, and certainly not a palm at all!. From Japan and Korea, it has been cultivated for centuries. Easy to care for, and undemanding in its requirements, it makes a wonderful and long-lived house plant. Is it as slow growing as people say? Not so, this reputation comes from the fact that it does nothing for months or possibly even years, then suddenly bursts into life and very quickly grows one, two, five, ten or even twenty or more leaves. This usually happens in June, and the plant should not be moved until the new leaves have hardened, otherwise they may distort. Cycas revoluta may be planted out into the garden when larger, in full sun; mature plants can withstand quite severe frosts. MG
